Blauwbaard (Bluebeard)

Blauwbaard is thé top act of the NJO Muziekzomer Gelderland! The folktale with the same name from Mother Goose Tales tells the story of a cruel, wealthy man who carries a great secret with him. The women of Bluebeard who went in search of this secret had a terrible fate. Judith, the woman who marries him despite Bluebeard’s bad reputation, cannot resist going in search of his secret either. When Bluebeard is away from home, she wanders from room to room until she makes a terrible discovery..

Blauwbaard is a Gesamtkunstwerk in which the music from the opera Ariane and Barbe-Bleue by Paul Dukas, acrobatics, dance, theater and art come together. The result is a spectacular, but also poetic performance in which the performers wonder why we find secrets, especially the secrets of other, so irresistible. Can you really know someone at all?
